Entry Level Co2 Lasers
If you've been looking at Glowforge or have been caught in their web of marketing; this list was made for you. Co2 lasers are best suited to working with organic materials, such as but not limited to, woods, plastics, fabrics, rubbers, and various polymers. Co2 lasers may only mark, but not cut, glass, some metals, and other materials.
A 100W 27.5" x 19.5" powerhouse. Everything you'd expect from a TTPLaser, in a nice little package.
60W Co2 laser with a 16" x 24" working area. An excellent machine for a budding business.
OMTech K40 (DF0812-40BG)
Hands down, the cheapest way to enter into the world of Co2 lasers. If you're interested in lasers as a hobby or are comfortable with tinkering to make it your own - the K40 is the lowest starting point.
One of the most popular Glowforge alternatives. All the mods you'd perform on the K40 to make it better, and everything the Glowforge can't do - ready to go.

Kal Kurdi, also known as TheLaserGuy, is an artist, a father, a husband, and a laser consultant. He uses a laser to create intricate designs on coins, a modern interpretation of a centuries-old tradition of coin art. His work is a testament to his dedication to empowering, educating, and guiding those who wish to learn about laser technology. Notable Canadian artists like Alex Colville and Gary Taxali have also practiced this form of folk art.
The Legal Battle
In March 2023, Kal was charged with defacing Canadian currency based on a complaint about his coin art shared on TikTok. This accusation has led to a legal battle that threatens not just his freedom of speech and artistic expression, but potentially yours as well. If found guilty, it could set a dangerous precedent for other artists who use currency in their artwork, potentially leading to increased scrutiny and legal action.
Why This Matters
Freedom of expression is a fundamental human right that allows individuals to express their thoughts, ideas, and beliefs. When this freedom is at stake, it means that an individual or group is being prevented from expressing their views. This could be due to censorship, legal action, or other forms of suppression. Kal's fight is not just for his rights but for the rights of every artist and individual who seeks to make their voice heard.
How You Can Help
Your support is crucial in this legal battle and contributes to the broader fight for artistic freedom.
