About TheLaserGuy
Kal Kurdi, also known as TheLaserGuy, is an artist, a father, a husband, and a laser consultant. He uses a laser to create intricate designs on coins, a modern interpretation of a centuries-old tradition of coin art. His work is a testament to his dedication to empowering, educating, and guiding those who wish to learn about laser technology. Notable Canadian artists like Alex Colville and Gary Taxali have also practiced this form of folk art.
The Legal Battle
In March 2023, Kal was charged with defacing Canadian currency based on a complaint about his coin art shared on TikTok. This accusation has led to a legal battle that threatens not just his freedom of speech and artistic expression, but potentially yours as well. If found guilty, it could set a dangerous precedent for other artists who use currency in their artwork, potentially leading to increased scrutiny and legal action.
Why This Matters
Freedom of expression is a fundamental human right that allows individuals to express their thoughts, ideas, and beliefs. When this freedom is at stake, it means that an individual or group is being prevented from expressing their views. This could be due to censorship, legal action, or other forms of suppression. Kal's fight is not just for his rights but for the rights of every artist and individual who seeks to make their voice heard.
How You Can Help
Your support is crucial in this legal battle and contributes to the broader fight for artistic freedom. Here's how you can make a difference: Share this webpage, link to it, use the banner below to show solidarity, and donate if you can. Even a small contribution can make a big impact when we all come together. Your support is not just a contribution to Kal's cause; it is an investment in the preservation of artistic freedom, the empowerment of creators, and the survival of our fundamental rights.
